As I know that some await impatiently a version of Boox compatible with Firefox 3, a little post to inform about the progress.
Currently on my computer with Firefox 3 beta5, in my Personal Bookmark Bar, Live Bookmarks (Feed) and their new entries are styled (bold), and of course unstyled when visited. Tooltips appear on the bookmarks with all their properties, including their tags (appeared with Places), and a summary for the feed entries.
In the Bookmarks Sidebar, Live Bookmarks are styled. The next step is the tooltips.
It lacks too for the moment, entries in the context menu added by Boox, like to open a feed in the Feed Reader, the personalized Feed Reader, and the advanced search in the sidebar.
So I rewrite Boox, it progress slowly, when I find time, but it progress ;) .
What's change, a priori: Boox no longer use its own history, but
look again into the native Firefox history to know if a feed entry is
unread.
The fact is that Places, managing from now the bookmarks and the history
in Firefox, is a lot more effective than the older, in fact the default
value for the history is 90 days in Firefox 3, it was 9 in Firefox 2 !
So the interest of a personal History for Boox is least, and it's
evidently a gain of effectiveness to not have one (otherwise Boox needs
to verify all pages loaded in the browser, if it's a feed entry,
update its history).
But I know that some users liked to be able to have an History value of 0 for Firefox, and another value for the Feeds in Boox. If some of you are anxious about this behavior, please, comment ;) .

Great news about your progress with BOOX - just updated to Hardy Heron and FF3b5 is standard.
>some users liked to be able to have an History value of 0
Yes that includes me - I liked the fact that BOOX could be used separate to ff history.
I'm in the same situation as Le dimanche - Fx3b5 in Hardy and I don't use history in Firefox but use it in Boox
Any chance of posting an alpha boox.xpi with just what you have working at present?
>some users liked to be able to have an History value of 0
Have you considered having an option which clears all none rss related history?
This allows you to dispense with the need for a separate boox history - boox can use the default firefox history but users who what web history cleared are catered for as well.
... so you would code a function to check history and if not related to a rss/live bookmark it would be deleted.
What do you think? Is this a practical solution?
first, yes there will be an alpha, please be patient ;) .
(and new, I got tooltips in the sidebar too now)
I must be more precise on the current behavior for Live Bookmarks :
in fact I not really inspect if a feed entry is in the Firefox History, but if it is in Places. Currently in Firefox 3 beta5, you could setup a History of 0 day, visit some bookmarked feed entries, clear all your privacy data, and quit Firefox.
When you re-open Firefox, there's nothing in the history, but the url of the visited feed entries are still in Places. You can verify this, these feed entries have a personalized icon (of course if the site of the feed have a favicon) !
For the moment I don't know if it's a feature of Places, a bug, or just a fact. I will try to find more information.
But, do you think this behaviour is suitable for you, SilverWave ?
Otherwise, I think for the moment I will stay as is. But perhaps I can offer a Boox History as a option, later, for a next beta.
>first, yes there will be an alpha, please be patient ;) .
SW: Yes! I cant believe how poor normal "Live Bookmarks" are :)
>When you re-open Firefox, there's nothing in the history, but the url of the visited feed entries are still in Places.
SW: Wow how odd.
Could this be considered offline site data?
>But, do you think this behavior is suitable for you, SilverWave ?
SW: I have thought about it and TBH I don't see this being a problem - Places etc is only going to be useful if we change our behavior somewhat.
>Otherwise, I think for the moment I will stay as is. But perhaps I can offer a Boox History as a option, later, for a next beta.
SW: This sound like a good idea - we will probably get used to it and it will not be necessary - but a plan 'B' is always a good idea ;)
SW:If you want the alpha tested just send me the xpi to the email address given ;)
Once again a big thanks for all the work on Boox - much appreciated.
